Andrzej Pisowicz

Andrzej Pisowicz started his degree in Oriental studies at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków in 1957. He learned Persian as his special subject and Arabic. In 1961 he went to Yerevan where he learned Armenian and some Kurdish. In 1963 he graduated from the University in Kraków with an MA in Iranian studies. In 1970 he started his work at the Jagiellonian University. In 1974 he obtained a doctor’s degree (in Armenian linguistics) and in 1985 he defended his Habilitationsschrift (in Iranian linguistics). In 2006 he started to lecture on Kurdish language (Kurmanji and Sorani dialects). Now retired, prof. A. Pisowicz published in 2012 in Kraków, together with Farhang Muthafar Muhamad and Andrzej Bartczak, a Grammar of Sorani Kurdish spoken in Erbil (in Polish: Gramatyka kurdyjska sorani, wariant używany w Erbilu).
