Mehmet Dicle in Kraków

We have plaeasure to invite to the meeting with Mehmet Dicle, the Kurdish writer from Bakur, entitled Kurdistan and Turkey in focus of Kurdish modern literature. The meeting will take place in a bookstore cafe Bonobo (Księgarnia Kawiarnia Podróżnicza), Kraków Mały Rynek 4.

 

 

Mehmet Dicle was born in 1977 in the village of Çolaxa near Bismil and grew up in the town of Hezro located around 70 kilometers northeast of Diyarbakir. In the 1990s he moved to Istanbul to study geography. Since graduating from the university he has been working as a high school teacher, now on an island near Istanbul. The first collection of Dicle’s short stories, entitled Asûs and written in the Kurmanji dialect of Kurdish language, was published by Tevn (2005) (second edition by Avesta in 2013), and was followed by Nara (2010) and Ta (2013). Despite their being small volumes, these three books established him as a leading figure among the younger generation of Kurdish writers from Bakur. Read more
